Owls In The Mist
Hector Gomez’s final project is a series of work that is probably the most creative and most original that I’ve seen thus far. He takes the view on a journey that is pure raw human emotion. I almost felt like I was watching a movie but it looked too real to be the case. Not only do his images stand up individually as amazing works of art but collectively they transcend limits of imagination. Hector has certainly captured melodramatic images that he has stage yet they look as if I was transported back in time and took part in the scene in some way. He was very consistent in his personal style of melodrama and put deep conceptual thought into every single image but by putting them in a series it shows that he also went a step beyond into storytelling making him a true artist for me. I couldn’t pick my favorite image because they are all so powerful and beautiful but his #1 personal style at first sparks my interest #2 shadow and light haunts me. #3 isolation makes me feel the loneliness of this child #4 certainly make my imagination of fear and what is to come next go wild. # 5 illustrative portrait is eerily beautiful. It tells me who this child was without having to see her face. #6 the beautiful escape shown in color gives more meaning to her running away. It symbolizes that her dark days of captivity are over as she runs for freedom where her world can start over. Hector I certainly think these should have a showing!!! At the very least submit them to the spring show. You have inspired my to take more chances in my own work and to take my style a step further!
